Happy Father’s Day

I am writing this on Sunday, June 16th or Father’s Day. A day we have set aside to honor Dads. For most of us, it is a day for barbecues and get-togethers. A day we give gifts like neckties and golf tees.

For others, it can be a painful day. Maybe your father is no longer with us. Maybe your Dad was abusive. Maybe you never even knew your father. Maybe you are a Dad whose only child was taken in a tragedy. There are many reasons in our fallen world.

For a growing segment of the population, Fatherhood represents toxicity. These people are leading a culture war against fathers. Fatherless homes used to be considered a tragedy, but now some are are saying we don’t need fathers at all. Friends, that is a lie.

Fathers are important. Study after study has confirmed this. Boys and girls alike need fathers in their life, but not just in their life, in their home. Fathers, you must realize how vital you truly are. We do not see you as the bumbling idiots portrayed by nearly every sitcom since the 1970’s.

In light of Ephesians 6:12, which tells us that our battle is not against flesh and blood, we understand that the war against fathers is primarily Satanic. Not only does the enemy desire the destruction of families, but he rebels against the idea that God is our ultimate Father. This, I’m certain is a big reason for the attack on Fatherhood. God has revealed Himself to us as our Heavenly Father and we are His children. But, only those who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus. Contrary to popular opinion, all people are not children of God, but only Christians. Jesus, Himself, referred to those outside the faith as children of the devil.

So friends, let us honor our fathers today and every day. Let us also honor our Father in Heaven daily. Let us defend Fatherhood wherever we see it attacked in our culture. If you have never placed your faith in Jesus as the only one who can save you, then I urge you to do so, and join the family of faith. A family with a good, good Father.
